Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, has announced that over 40% of Nigerians now benefit from an average of 20 hours of electricity supply daily.

This achievement is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at revitalizing the nation’s economy.

In a statement released on September 30, 2024, Adelabu attributed this success to several revolutionary measures implemented by the Ministry of Power, bolstered by the administration’s commitment to industrialization through stable electricity. He noted that when he took office, the country had an installed generation capacity of 13,000 megawatts but was only producing around 4,000 megawatts. Currently, Nigeria generates over 5,500 megawatts, thanks in part to the newly commissioned Zungeru hydroelectric power plant.

“Today, our installed capacity exceeds 14,000 megawatts, and the number of customers enjoying over 20 hours of regular power supply has significantly increased,” he said.

Adelabu emphasized that stable electricity is vital for economic growth, citing examples of countries like South Korea and China, which achieved industrial success through reliable power supply.

He further outlined the ministry’s vision to provide consistent electricity to households, businesses, and institutions, stating, “This will enhance their operational capacity and create more jobs.”

The minister reaffirmed the commitment to achieving stable, functional, and affordable electricity, essential for Nigeria’s development and industrial progress.
