The Ijaw Youth Council Western Zone has condemned the gruesome killing of Oyabrade Peter Warebo, a final year student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.

Warebo was killed under suspicious circumstances by a neighbour identified just as Peter on April 30, 2025.

The deceased was reading inside his room when the loaded gun of the suspect opened fire from the next room, hitting Warebo in the face and rendering him lifeless on the spot.

Reacting to the incident, the IYC Western Zone, through its Information Officer, Comrade Tare Magbei, condemned the tragic incident and called for a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served if the suspect is found culpable for homicide.

Taking to his official Facebook account, Magbei said;

“The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, strongly condemns the tragic and untimely killing of Oyabrade Peter Warebo, a final-year student of the Department of Laboratory Science Technology at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, under suspicious circumstances.

“According to preliminary findings, Warebo was in his room preparing for his final examinations when he was fatally shot by a member of the Ogwashi-Uku vigilante group.

“The suspect, identified only as Peter—a supposed friend and neighbour of the deceased—claimed the shooting was accidental, alleging that the firearm discharged while he was reaching for an item on the floor in his own room.

“While the IYC acknowledges that accidents can occur, we urge the Delta State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident. It is essential that the truth is uncovered and that justice is pursued without fear or favour.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Warebo family during this time of unimaginable grief. The loss of a young life on the cusp of academic achievement is a tragedy that resonates deeply within our community.

“The IYC remains committed to ensuring that this matter is not swept under the rug. If the evidence points to negligence or intentional harm, we will advocate relentlessly for accountability and justice.”
