The Oyo State Government has sealed off a building undergoing reconstruction in Ibadan, the state capital, after it collapsed during a rainstorm on Sunday night.
The building, located on the main road in Dugbe leading to Mokola, gave way amid heavy rains that affected parts of Ibadan.
Williams Akin-Funmilayo, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, announced the sealing on Monday following an on-the-spot assessment of the site.

He explained that the government’s action aims to prevent casualties, protect lives and property, and facilitate a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Akin-Funmilayo also stated that an integrity test would be conducted not only on the collapsed structure but also on similar buildings across the state to prevent future incidents. The results of the test will guide the government’s subsequent steps regarding building safety regulations.

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected to be members of a criminal gang during a routine patrol on May 29.
The operation, part of the command’s continuous efforts to fight crime and enhance public safety, resulted in the discovery of firearms, ammunition, and a vehicle believed to be stolen.
