Ayoyinka had sparked reactions online after suggesting he was broke despite his long-standing role in the popular TV series Papa Ajasco and Company.
Reacting in a statement, Adenuga described the claim as inaccurate and misleading, stressing that the actor has not been restricted from earning a living.
“I want to address the wave of misinformation… not with malice, but in the interest of truth and the integrity of a legacy that has entertained millions,” Adenuga said.
Adenuga clarified that Ayoyinka is free to take up acting and advertising roles but must seek approval when using the “Papa Ajasco” identity due to brand protection policies.
He explained that the restriction is necessary to protect the integrity of the long-standing comedy franchise.
“He cannot use the copyrighted brand name Papa Ajasco for personal ventures because it is our duty to protect the brand,” he stated.
Providing more context, Adenuga noted that Ayoyinka had a stable career as a civil servant with the Lagos State Government, where he worked for over 30 years and was part of the state’s cultural troupe.
He also revealed that the production company had supported the actor over the years.
According to him:
• The actor was gifted a car
• He has used multiple vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz
• He owns a house in Ogun State
Adenuga added that there has been no serious disagreement between them, describing Ayoyinka as a talented actor who closely resembles the original Papa Ajasco character created in 1976.
The filmmaker maintained that the public reaction was driven by misunderstanding and incomplete information, emphasizing that both parties remain on good terms.
The statement appears aimed at calming concerns among fans of the long-running comedy series, while reinforcing the need to protect its brand identity.
