Passenger Bus Somersaults into Bush on Makurdi–Yelewata Road

A passenger bus traveling from Makurdi was involved in a serious accident on Wednesday, reportedly somersaulting into the bush just a few kilometers before Yelewata.

While casualties have been reported, the exact number of victims and the extent of injuries remain unclear as authorities continue rescue efforts.

Eyewitnesses have urged residents to urgently check on relatives or friends who may have boarded vehicles departing from Makurdi earlier in the day.

One of the first responders, who rushed to inform the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office in Yelewata, claimed that officers on duty said the crash site was outside their jurisdiction and advised him to report the incident at the Daudu unit instead.

As of this report, rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed the full scale of the accident.

The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper connected to the abduction of a 100-year-old man in the Sabon Pegi area of Ibi Local Government Council.

In a press statement on Wednesday, signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, James Lashen Saminu, the police said the arrest followed swift action by operatives from the Ibi Division working in collaboration with local youths.
