- Christians should not be “unequally yoked” with unbelievers
- Risky to try to change a partner’s faith later
- Spiritual compatibility crucial in marriage
Pastor Emmanuel Iren, founder of Celebration Church International in Lagos, has cautioned Christians against dating people of different faiths, emphasizing the importance of spiritual compatibility in marriage.
The pastor shared his views while responding to a Christian lady who sought guidance about her relationship with a Muslim partner. The lady had been dating the man for about a year, and he was not opposed to her Christian faith, but her parents disapproved of the relationship.

“You don’t go into shortlet and try to change the design, it is God who designed it and God’s standard is this, do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers (Muslims),” Pastor Iren said.
He shared a cautionary tale of a woman in Abuja whose Muslim partner initially accepted her faith but later insisted she stop attending church. The situation became complicated after their child was dedicated according to Islamic rites.
