Violence broke out across Oyo State on Saturday when suspected political thugs attacked the Bodija residence of former Deputy Governor Hazim Gbolarumi during local government congresses.
This was organised by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The crisis is linked to the ongoing leadership struggle within the party in the state, where two rival factions exist — one aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde and the other loyal to Wike.

The congress organised by the Wike-backed faction reportedly degenerated into violence, leaving about 25 persons injured and properties destroyed in several parts of the state.
Witnesses said houses, offices and vehicles were vandalised in Ibadan North, Ido, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele, and Ogbomoso North local government areas.
Chairman of the Wike-aligned PDP faction in the state, Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the attacks, warning that suspected thugs were still moving across some local government areas carrying out acts of violence.
Also reacting, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the incident occurred and said the police were monitoring the situation.
