Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has distanced himself from the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Nyesom Wike, from the party.

The decision was taken at the PDP’s national convention currently underway at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, with delegates from 17 states participating. A motion for the expulsion of the 11 members was moved by PDP chieftain Chief Bode George, who accused them of actions that undermined the party’s collective interest.

Reacting in a statement, Fintiri made it clear that he was not part of the move and did not endorse Wike’s removal.

He said:

“I, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, from PDP.”

Fintiri insisted that the action was harmful to the party’s stability.

“I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to peace within the PDP and urged members to prioritise reconciliation.

“My position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP… Peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party.”

Fintiri appealed to all stakeholders to work towards healing divisions and restoring unity, adding that he remains committed to supporting efforts that strengthen the PDP.
