• Faction inaugurates new PDP Board of Trustees at Wike’s residence
• Wabara, Makarfi removed over alleged loss of moral authority and constitutional breach
• Nwobodo urges reconciliation, warns PDP risks irrelevance without reform
The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, dissolved the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, replacing them with Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Hon. Isah Dansidi.
At a meeting held at Wike’s Life Camp residence in Abuja on Friday, the faction’s Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, presided over the inauguration of the new BoT, declaring that the reconstitution was essential to restore discipline, constitutional order, and moral credibility within the party.

Muhammad accused the dissolved leadership of losing “the moral balance expected of that noble institution,” citing Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter over alleged anti-party activities as grounds for his removal.
“The Board that was meant to be the moral compass of our party became divided and ineffective. Its credibility was heavily questioned, and its continued role in national advisory matters became impossible to sustain,” Muhammad said.

He further criticised the tenure of the ‘suspended’ National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, for what he described as “moral decline and disregard for judicial authority,” accusing him of shielding those who violated the party’s constitution.
Muhammad said the decision to overhaul the BoT followed a recent Federal High Court judgment that paved the way for reconstitution, adding that the new body would act as “a symbol of rebirth and conscience of the PDP.”
“This is not a reward for loyalty; it is a sacred trust. Your voices must be voices of unity, and your actions must inspire confidence in our collective future,” he declared.
The new PDP BoT issued a seven-point communiqué reaffirming its commitment to constitutional order, unity, and lawful conduct ahead of the party’s national convention. It also directed full compliance with the October 31 court ruling that halted the planned convention and warned against contempt of court.
In his remarks, founding member and former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, urged reconciliation and unity, calling on leaders to rebuild the PDP into a formidable political force.
“As one of the founding fathers, I appeal to our leaders to ensure that PDP remains the beacon of democracy in Nigeria. Reconciliation is the only path to restoration,” Nwobodo said, while commending Wike’s performance as FCT Minister.
The communiqué jointly signed by Senator Ohuabunwa and Hon. Dansidi reaffirmed that the PDP remains one united family, committed to justice, equity, and progress, while pledging that the new BoT would act as the conscience of the party.
