The Peoples Democratic Party has elected a new National Working Committee (NWC) by consensus at its national convention held in Abuja.
Former Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, emerged as the party’s substantive National Chairman and is expected to lead the opposition platform for the next four years.

Other key officials elected include Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, alongside deputies and principal officers across party structures.
The emergence of the new leadership comes amid efforts to stabilise the party following internal crises and defections.
Speaking at the convention, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, criticised party members who exited during the crisis, describing their actions as a failure of leadership.
“What you have seen happening… only shows that they lack a sense of leadership,” Wike said.
In a veiled reference to Peter Obi, he added:

“That candidate was given a platform… yet when a crisis arose within the party… he failed to provide that leadership.”
Wike also took aim at governors who left the party, accusing them of abandoning responsibility when it mattered most.
“When crises emerged, and it was time to demonstrate leadership, vision, and courage, they ran away,” he said.
He urged loyalty and accountability within the party, warning that political ambition must be matched with resilience.
“This is a period of accountability… when crises arise, some people flee,” he added.
The convention marks a significant step in the PDP’s ongoing efforts to rebuild cohesion and reposition itself ahead of future elections.
