Acting chairman labels coalition movement a “failed political experiment”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rescheduled its elective national convention to hold in November 2025, pushing back from the earlier August date. The party also announced a change of venue from Kano State to Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The announcement was made by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba, on Thursday during the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
Ologunagba said the shift was made to “accommodate wider consultations” and “strengthen internal party processes” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his remarks at the NEC session, Acting PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, said most party members who previously moved to the opposition coalition are returning to the PDP.
According to Damagum, many of those who left are now confessing they “never truly exited the PDP” but merely “attended coalition meetings out of frustration.”

He described the opposition coalition as a “failed political experiment”, stressing that only the PDP has the national structure, electoral strength, and institutional legacy to lead Nigeria forward.
Damagum also declared the PDP as the only party capable of unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, urging members to remain focused and united.
The new convention date is expected to set the stage for major leadership and strategic decisions that will shape the PDP’s path to reclaiming national power.
