The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has ordered its members to cut off gas and crude oil supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery following the dismissal of workers allegedly punished for attempting to unionise.

In a memo signed by Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa, PENGASSAN General Secretary, branch chairmen in TotalEnergies, Seplat, Renaissance, Chevron, Oando, Shell Nigeria Gas and the Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) were directed to immediately shut crude oil supply valves to the refinery, halt vessel loading operations, and ensure gas supply is cut off.

The union described Dangote Refinery’s decision as “illegitimate,” accusing management of misinformation and propaganda rather than engaging meaningfully with labour to resolve the dispute.

“We bring you fraternal greetings from the National Secretariat. As you are aware, the Management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disengaged our members in reaction to the exercise of their constitutional right to being unionized,” the memo read in part.

The directive adds another layer of crisis to the refinery, which had only hours earlier announced the suspension of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sales in naira due to the exhaustion of its crude-for-naira allocation.
