Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has come out in defense of Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesman of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, cautioning party members against attacking him over his differing opinions.

Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last general elections, described Okonkwo as his “beloved brother and trusted ally” despite his resignation from the party. Okonkwo had announced his resignation on Sunday, citing internal strife and leadership crisis within the party.

In a series of posts on his X account, Obi said, “Yesterday, I read my dear brother Kenneth Okonkwo’s open letter in which he expressed differing views with me on the skirmishes in our party. And today, I saw various responses to the letter. I want to, therefore, categorically and emphatically declare that Okonkwo remains my beloved brother and a trusted ally.”

Obi warned against referring to Okonkwo as a mole or making negative remarks, saying, “Disagreements and differing opinions are a natural part of any group, society, or movement, and it is essential to maintain a level of respect and decorum even when we disagree.”
