Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP)’s presidential candidate in 2023, has denounced the recent Edo State governorship election as a travesty of democracy.
Obi described the election as a blatant example of “state capture” and a continued undermining of Nigeria’s democratic values.
He revealed his discontent on X, stating that the election did not reflect the democratic process and was instead marred by irregularities.

He stressed the need for proper use of technologies like IReV and BVAS to prevent electoral fraud.

Obi also cautioned those in power that their actions will have consequences and urged them to prioritize saving the country over personal interests.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner, but Obi and other opposition parties have rejected the result, citing flaws and irregularities.
