Jigawa, Benue, and South-South zone record highest fuel costs across Nigeria
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed that the average price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly called petrol, surged to N1,037.66 per litre in June 2025, marking a 38.32 percent rise compared to N750.17 recorded in June 2024.
This was contained in the bureau’s latest “Petrol Price Watch” report released in Abuja on Thursday, which further indicated that the price slightly increased by 0.96 percent from N1,027.76 in May 2025.
The report also highlighted that Jigawa State recorded the highest average pump price of petrol at N1,107.52 per litre, closely followed by Ondo at N1,104.80 and Lagos at N1,100.29. Conversely, Yobe paid the lowest average at N950.60, followed by Kogi at N986.67 and Imo at N987.86.

In terms of zonal price comparison, the North-West region topped the list with an average retail price of N1,062.84 per litre, while the North-East recorded the lowest zonal average at N1,020.15.
In a related report, the NBS also revealed that the average retail price of diesel soared to N1,813.81 per litre in June 2025, representing a 23.98 percent jump from N1,462.98 in June 2024. On a month-on-month basis, diesel prices increased by 3.16 percent from the N1,758.26 recorded in May 2025.

Benue State topped the diesel price chart with an average of N2,541.46 per litre, followed by Adamawa at N2,355.32 and Plateau at N2,236.42.
The lowest diesel prices were recorded in Ondo at N1,365.71, Anambra at N1,391.02, and Kogi at N1,400.00.
Regionally, the South-South zone had the highest average diesel price at N1,963.86, while the South-West recorded the lowest zonal average at N1,618.74.
