  • Three individuals, including palace officials Waziri and Wakili, were abducted during a violent bandit attack on Bunyun community in Wase LGA, Plateau State.
  • Bandits looted food, clothes, and motorcycles, and set several houses ablaze during the Wednesday night raid.
  • Residents have deserted the community, calling on the government to deploy security personnel so they can safely return to their farms and protect their livelihoods.

Three individuals, including two palace officials, have been kidnapped by bandits in Bunyun community, located in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The attack, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, left several houses burned and has been linked to a previous confrontation between local vigilantes and bandits last Sunday. That earlier clash reportedly resulted in multiple deaths and the destruction of properties.

According to a resident who witnessed the latest assault, the armed men stormed the community in large numbers on motorcycles, looting food, clothing, and motorcycles.

He said, “While the attack was going on, we were completely confused. We didn’t know what to do. Everybody had to run away because people were afraid to remain in the area.”

He identified the abducted palace aides as Waziri and his younger brother, Wakili, adding that the raid had forced many residents to flee to nearby towns such as Bashar.

By Thursday morning, the once-populated village had reportedly become deserted. The resident stressed the urgent need for security reinforcements to help locals return to their farms.

“Our crops are already planted and we are worried about our farms. We need the government to help us with security so that we can go back to our farms and secure our livelihoods,” he appealed.

Efforts to reach Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, and Alabo Alfred, the Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau, were unsuccessful as both failed to respond to multiple calls.
