A young man was arrested after climbing a 33kV high tension pole in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, demanding the resignation of President Bola Tinubu. The incident took place on the market day along the Yola-Jalingo highway.

Local residents and police engaged in negotiations to convince the man to descend, which he finally did on Saturday night.

The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguruje, confirmed the arrest, stating the man is currently in protective custody of the Criminal Investigating Department. He is set to be paraded before the public on Monday for attempting suicide, a charge under Nigerian law.

Nguruje emphasized the police’s duty to protect lives and property, asserting that individuals attempting self-harm will face legal consequences.
