The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in Kwara State has confirmed the arrest of three men accused of setting ablaze the residence of an elderly traditional worshipper in Ilorin, the state capital.

The incident came to public attention after a video circulated online showing the victim, Mrs. T. A. Olorisha, lamenting that her home at the Isale Koko area of Ilorin was completely destroyed by fire.

According to the police, Mrs. Olorisha reported the incident at the C Division Police Station, Oja Oba, on January 2, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m., stating that the attack occurred a day earlier while she was not at home.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly threatened the woman in November 2025 over her practice of traditional worship before carrying out the attack in January.

Confirming the development, the police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the suspects identified by the complainant are Alhaji Salihu Saka (63), Alhaji Abubakar Salihu (58), and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele (67).

“The complainant alleged that she received threats from the suspects over religious differences, as she is a traditional worshipper,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

She added that all three suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

The police confirmed that no life was lost during the incident, as the house was empty at the time of the fire. The exact value of the property destroyed is yet to be determined.

Reaffirming the command’s position, the spokesperson stressed that religious freedom and peaceful coexistence remain protected rights under the law.

“There must be no interference with the right to religion. The Kwara State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives, property, and the fundamental rights of all residents, regardless of belief,” she said.

The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information that could help identify other individuals linked to the attack.
