The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle during a live-stream.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the arrest was prompted by widespread public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

The police said Peller’s conduct posed a serious threat to public safety and required immediate intervention.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘Peller’, following a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash while live-streaming,” the statement said.

The command described the act as extremely dangerous, noting that it could have resulted in fatal consequences for both the suspect and other road users.

“His action constitutes a deliberate endangerment of his own life and that of innocent members of the public,” the police added.

The police further disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.

“The case is currently under investigation by the SCID. Upon completion, the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the statement noted.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and content creators against using online platforms to promote unlawful or dangerous behaviour.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly warns influencers and members of the public to desist from engaging in or promoting reckless, dangerous, or criminal acts on social media,” the statement said.

He stressed that such conduct would no longer be tolerated, assuring residents that the command remains committed to enforcing the law without fear or favour.
