The Oyo State Police Command has paraded 26-year-old Shagbada Erigga, over the alleged killing of his 30-year-old girlfriend, Happiness Winifred, over her refusal to have sex with him.
The suspect who was paraded before journalists on the suspect Wednesday, had invited the mother of three over to his place to pass the night on June 21.
The Oyo state Commissioner of Police, CP. Chuks Enwonwu further stated the duo had a heated argument following Happiness’ refusal to have sex with Erigga.
Erigga is said to have punched her repeatedly for three times, resulting to her slumping and dying on the spot.
Erigga dumped her remains in a well in his compound in a bid to cover his tracks, but luck ran out of him when his neighbor discovered the floating corpse and reported to the police.
The CP revealed that the Ojoo Police Station swung into action upon the report made by Mr. Agu Benson, a fellow resident of Oritoke Area of Ojoo, Ibadan alongside the suspect.
Mr Agu reported that he discovered a floating dead body inside the well in his compound when he went to fetch from it on June 25.
When interrogated, Mr Erigga Shagbada confessed to the crime but stated he killed his girlfriend by accident as he had no intentions of killing her.
He revealed she is a mother of three and also a runs girl, but he had made up his mind to marry Happiness until the sad event occurred.
Narrating what happened, Erigga explained that they were both in the shower when he confronted Happiness over her refusal to have sex with him. She ended up raising her voice at him, forcing him to slap the deceased.
Happiness’ retaliation of the slap led to him her punching thrice on the mouth and another on the neck, making her slump to death.
He quickly dumped her body in the well to avoid being suspected for his action, but the discovery of the floating corpse by his neighbor led to his arrest by the police.
Part of items recovered from Erigga’s apartment includes, an Android phone, a handbag, a pack of condoms, keys and slippers.
