The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun’s appointment is in line with the law and not a tenure extension.
This follows widespread reports misinterpreting the nature of IGP Egbetokun’s appointment.

In a statement issued by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muyiwa Adejobi, the police addressed the misleading claims circulating on social media and news platforms.
The Police stressed that there is no need for the IGP to seek an extension, as his appointment letter already guarantees him a four-year term from the date of his confirmation.
“The clarification is necessary to put an end to the speculations and falsehoods being spread. We urge the public to disregard the unfounded reports and to trust that the tenure of the IGP is in full compliance with the laws governing the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.
