The National Police Council (NPC) has confirmed Kayode Egbetokun as the 22nd substantive indigenous Inspector-General of Police.
The council, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu, endorsed Egbetokun’s appointment following his pedigree and experiences on the job.
Egbetokun had been serving in an acting capacity for the past four months since his appointment on June 20.
Egbetokun, who enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on March 3, 1990, would clock 35 years in service by September 2024.

Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam told Newsmen
on Tuesday in Abuja while at the end of the council’s meeting held at the Presidential Villa.
Gaidam stated that the meeting centred on the confirmation of the IGP, who had been in an acting capacity since four months ago.
The new IGP was said to have presented impressive records that revealed his numerous police and security developmental programmes, thereby positioning him as highly qualified.
Minister of Police Affairs said:
“We just had a meeting of the Police Council with President Bola Tinubu. The meeting focused on the confirmation of the acting Inspector-General of Police as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
“He has been in an acting capacity since he was appointed three or four months ago. Based on our records and what we physically see in him, he has a very rich curriculum vitae.
“He has attended several police and security courses, and he is eminently qualified to be confirmed.
“I found him to be very qualified, very honest, very transparent, and very hardworking.”
