Police Dismisses Officer Accused of Raping Abia Polytechnic Student, to Face Trial | Daily Report Nigeria

Corporal Chinedu Nwachukwu who was recently accused of raping a female Abia Polytechnic Student while under detention has been dismissed from the police force.

Corporal Chinedu was found guilty of raping the female polytechnic student after an orderly room trial was conducted at Umuahia and was immediately dismissed from the police force.

He also will face trial in a regular court for rape, extortion and other offences.

According to the report, the police officers during a patrol in an off-campus students’ hostel said they perceived “weed” which led to the arrest of 6 students.

5 of the students were later released, leaving behind only the 18-year-old female student who was later raped.

The incident sparked a protest by the students who demanded an investigation into the case. During the protest, police officers fired shots into the air to dismiss the protesting students.
