President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, recounted a distressing incident in which he was assaulted by alleged thugs in Imo State.
Ajaero revealed that he was initially apprehended by the police in Owerri, the state capital, and subsequently handed over to a group of seven thugs who treated him with utter disregard for his dignity.
NLC President gave his account during a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, November 10.
To ensure their safety, the NLC had previously written to all relevant security agencies before their protest in the state.

Despite the precautions, Ajaero reported that workers who had gathered at the protest site around 7 am on the designated day were subjected to physical assault by the thugs, who also confiscated their mobile phones.
Adding insult to injury, Ajaero himself was arrested by the police and then handed over to the very individuals responsible for his mistreatment.
The NLC President said:
“I can’t explain the beating I received. They tied my hands and dragged me on the floor like a common criminal.”
Furthermore, he categorically denied being affiliated with any political party, refuting the allegations made against him.
