Police IG Orders Seun Kuti’s Arrest

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered for the immediate arrest of Afro beat singer, Seun Kuti.

The Police IG directed the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command to arrest Seun Kuti for assaulting a police officer in uniform.

In a statement on Saturday by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has also ordered a thorough and speedy investigation into the incident to determine the true cause of the assault.

The statement titled ‘SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: IGP CONDEMNS ACT, ORDERS IMMEDIATE ARREST OF SEUN KUTI,” read;

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.

“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”

Meanwhile, the music star in a response via his Instastory, claimed that the police officer attempted to harm him and his family.

Seun further claimed that the officer has apologised for the incident and he has forgiven him.

Kuti also cautioned those accusing him of seeking attention to refrain from doing so in order to avoid costing the police officer his job.

He said, “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I’m not seeking attention. He has apologized, and I have agreed not to press charges. Please mind your business and ensure the poor guy doesn’t lose his job.” [sic]
