Nigeria’s Transpower Electricity Distribution has confirmed that Imo State was plunged into a total blackout on Saturday following an alleged invasion of the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) Egbu transmission substation by armed police operatives.
The blackout occurred at about 10:20 a.m., when officers of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly stormed the facility, assaulted the operator on duty, and compelled staff to shut down bulk electricity supply to the state.

According to the company,
“The management of Transpower Electricity Distribution Limited wishes to inform her esteemed customers in Imo State of a total shutdown of power supply which occurred earlier today, Saturday, 15th November 2025, at about 10.20am.
This development was carried out by armed men of the Nigerian Police Force who invaded the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station at Egbu and assaulted the operator on duty along with other staff present, forcing them to shut down the power supply – a situation that threw the entire Imo State into darkness.”
Transpower appealed for patience, saying it is on standby to restore supply once authorised. It assured customers of its continued commitment to improving electricity services.
Earlier, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) issued a warning that Imo risked disconnection from the national grid over the alleged abduction of its workers at gunpoint.
