The Nigeria Police Force has announced it will resume nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy on January 2, 2026, citing rising security risks linked to vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.

In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police explained that enforcement was temporarily suspended to give motorists time to regularise documentation and apply for permits without pressure.

However, recent security trends show a spike in criminal activities—including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offences—facilitated by vehicles fitted with illegal tinted glass.

The Force emphasized that there is no court order restraining enforcement and described the resumption as a necessary proactive measure to safeguard lives and property nationwide.

“Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes,” the statement read. “Enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit will resume on 2nd January, 2026.”

The Nigeria Police urged motorists to ensure their vehicles comply with the law ahead of the resumption to avoid penalties.
