Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development during a live interview on AIT on Wednesday.

According to Adeh, the police officially received the court order and immediately directed all formations to suspend the ongoing enforcement until the legal process is concluded.

> “Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” Adeh stated.

She added that the directive will remain in effect until the outcome of the ongoing litigation is determined.

“We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” she said.

Addressing public concerns, Adeh clarified that the tinted glass regulation was introduced strictly for security reasons to combat rising criminal activities involving vehicles with darkened windows.

“The law was not made by us. We are enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she explained.

She dismissed allegations that the policy was a revenue generation scheme, stressing that all payments related to tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) and not to the police.

The enforcement of tinted glass permits has long stirred public controversy, with motorists lamenting harassment and extortion at various checkpoints. The latest court order temporarily halts the exercise, pending further judicial interpretation of the legality and process of the permit issuance.
