Akpan Rejects Sack, Declares Exco Intact

Chairman of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, Mr Àniekan Akpan, described the purported dissolution as “illegal, false, and unconstitutional.”

Addressing journalists in Uyo alongside other exco members, Akpan said:

“The Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State wishes to address a recent wave of misinformation circulating on social media platforms, particularly on Facebook, claiming the dissolution of our duly elected State Executive Committee. We categorically state that these reports are not only false but unconstitutional.”

He added that members of his exco were duly elected in a properly constituted state congress with a four-year mandate. He further alleged that some of them were wrongly listed in the new caretaker committee without consent.

Pledge of Loyalty to Governor Umo Eno

Akpan reiterated that the state PDP under his leadership remains aligned with Governor Umo Eno, who he described as a unifying leader across party lines.

“The party cannot separate us from Governor Umo Eno. He is the governor for all. Nobody can say we have engaged in anti-party activity by hobnobbing with the governor,” he declared.

The police presence at the secretariat is to forestall possible clashes between the rival factions.
