Pondi Takes Free Medical Outreach to Riverine Communities in Delta

Riverine communities across Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have been greeted with a free medical outreach.

The exercise, which spanned through Tuesday July 26, 2022 to Saturday July 30, 2022, held in Okpokunu, Torugbene and Ekogbene communities in the Burutu Council.

The free medical outreach was facilitated by Hon. Julius Pond, lawmaker representing the Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, in collaboration with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, PCN.

Addressing newsmen at Ekogbene where the outreach was flagged off, Pondi said the exercise was aimed at ensuring the physical wellbeing of his constituents.

The lawmaker, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Tonkiri Apu, said the exercise was purely aimed at attaining good health for his people.

“The aim of this program is to reach out to as many as possible persons in Burutu Federal Constituency, to create a healthy environment for all.

“Health is wealth and we thought it wise to make sure that as many people as possible are made healthy to enable them face their daily endeavors.

“I am convinced that at the end of this exercise, the health of these people would have been greatly affected positively,” Pondi said.

The lawmaker said the exercise will further be spread to other communities in the constituency, adding that seeing his constituents healthy was a priority.

On his part, Dr. Precious Ndonake, an optometrist who spoke on behalf of the medical team noted that the exercise was caught out to help alleviate the various health challenges facing rural dwellers.

“We are all here to cater for the health needs of these people and so far, it has gone quite well. Thank God we’re achieving our aim already,” Ndonake said.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with our correspondent poured encomiums on the lawmaker for finding it worthy to provide free healthcare for them.

The outreach featured home medical care for the elderly, screening, counseling, consultations, dispensing of drugs and glasses.

Surgeries were also conducted for Appendectomy, Herniorrhaphy, Hydrocelectomy, Lipoma surgery and herniotomy.

The exercises witnessed over 800 beneficiaries cutting across the three communities, treated for malaria, diabetes, glaucoma, arthritis, asthma, and over 50 other diseases.
