The cleric, who hailed from Zaria in Kaduna State, was widely loved for blending deep Islamic knowledge with humour, making religious teachings accessible and engaging, especially for younger audiences.
Sheikh Rigi-rigi rose to national prominence through social media platforms, where his sermons often went viral. He was particularly known for referencing lesser-known historical Islamic scholars, sometimes using their unusual names to spark curiosity and laughter among listeners.
Fondly called Rigi-rigi, Rugum, Danga-danga, and Attalili-attagazuti, the cleric used comedy as a teaching tool without diluting the seriousness of Islamic principles.
A close associate described him as a man who “understood how to teach religion without fear, bitterness, or boredom.”
“Sheikh Rigi-rigi had a rare gift,” the associate said.
“He made people laugh, but he also made them think deeply about their faith.”
News of his death has continued to trend online, with many followers describing him as a scholar who brought joy, clarity, and originality to Islamic preaching.
Details of burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
