Controversial
Nigerian singer Portable has been released on bail after spending a week in prison over allegations of assault and theft. The singer regained his freedom on Monday, January 19, 2026, after fulfilling the bail conditions granted by the court in Ogun State.
Shortly after his release, Portable addressed fans in a video that quickly spread across social media, insisting he was wrongly accused.
“They lied against me. I’m innocent,” the singer said.
Portable was remanded in custody last week following a complaint filed by his baby mama, Ashabi Simple, and her siblings.
The controversy started on New Year’s Eve when a video showing a heated confrontation between Portable and Ashabi surfaced online. In the clip, Ashabi was seen holding onto the singer’s clothes while repeatedly saying, “Pami baby”, loosely translated as “Baby, you want to kill me.”
Following the incident, Ashabi and her siblings accused Portable of assault and stealing their car, leading to his arrest.
The singer was later arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count charge bordering on theft, assault, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
The presiding judge ordered his remand and fixed January 19, 2026, for a fresh bail hearing. Portable was released the same day after meeting the court’s conditions.
