The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored power to seven northern states, ending a nine-day blackout caused by the vandalization of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

As of 4:56 PM, electricity has been partially restored to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe states.

In a statement, Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, confirmed that repairs on the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 had been completed, allowing bulk power supply to resume. “With the restoration of this line, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now operational,” Mbah stated.

The outage, which affected the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central Nigeria, was initially reported on October 22.

Following the incident, TCN faced challenges in repairing the lines due to insecurity in the region. In response, President Bola Tinubu directed enhanced security measures to assist TCN engineers.

Mbah added, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria has successfully restored bulk power supply… following the completion of repairs on the vandalized section of the line.”
