Premier League clubs smashed a £3 billion record in the summer transfer window, about £650 million more than in 2023, Deloitte reports.

The spending accounted for 51% of gross outlay across Europe’s “big five” leagues.

The window closed in dramatic style when Liverpool completed a British-record £125m signing of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Tim Bridge, lead partner in Deloitte’s Sports Business Group, said the figures show clubs “have no plans to slow down” as more English sides compete in European competitions.

More than just a big number, this spending spike shows that transfer fees, salaries and recruitment choices decide success on the field and in the boardroom.
