Disgraced former Premier League referee, David Coote has faced charges from the Football Association (FA) on Tuesday.

The charge came after Coote’s disparaging remarks about ex-Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp resurfaced online.

Coote, 42, already lost his job in December when Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL) sacked him.

Meanwhile, a video had circulated the previous month showing him making derogatory comments about Klopp and Liverpool back in 2020.

What cut deepest was Coote’s jibe at Klopp’s German heritage that the FA deemed it a serious, “aggravated” violation of its conduct rules.

On a different front, the FA also made it clear they won’t press any gambling charges against him ; a matter he’s always denied with unwavering conviction.

According to the FA, investigators completed a full review and closed the gambling matter.

In the meantime, another video emerged last November showing Coote snorting white powder, reportedly during Euro 2024.

As a result, UEFA banned him from all officiating duties until June 2026.

In a January interview, Coote came out as gay.

However, he confessed that carrying the secret of his sexuality felt like a heavy burden.

He added that he could feel its weight seeping into his calls on the field.

In the end, he spoke from the heart, saying he was “truly sorry for any offence caused,” as if every word carried the weight of his regret.
