Urges Tinubu to call cabinet members to order and allow law to take its course
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone has raised the alarm over alleged attempts by powerful figures within the Nigerian Presidency to frustrate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from implementing its final recommendations on ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency.
The council accused these unnamed presidential officials of pressuring INEC to discard its proposed delineation in favour of the Itsekiri ethnic group, warning that such manipulation could trigger a breakdown of law and order in Warri and its environs. This was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Nicholas Igarama, Chairman; Barr. Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo, Secretary; and Comrade Tare Magbei, Information Officer of IYC Western Zone.
The statement reads in part: “We have it on good authority that INEC is under severe pressure to abandon its proposed recommendations to allow the Itsekiris to continually lay claim to a majority status that only exists in their minds and not in reality. These unpatriotic elements with vested interest in the final outcome of the delineation exercise first sought for INEC to undertake a fresh exercise before seeking to alter the already proposed recommendations by the electoral umpire.”

The IYC warned that Ijaw people will not remain silent in the face of what it described as a deliberate attempt to suppress their political rights through backdoor influence. The group insisted it would “vehemently oppose any move to undo the already established report of INEC as regards the Ward Delineation exercise,” calling on President Bola Tinubu to rein in his cabinet members allegedly involved in the ploy.
The council also demanded that INEC must implement the ward delineation report before commencing any continuous voter registration exercise, noting that the current wards and units have become obsolete based on a recent Supreme Court judgment.
