The Presidency has dismissed reports that Muhammed Babangida, son of former military ruler Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), rejected his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) by President Bola Tinubu.
The report, initially circulated on social media by Ovation publisher Dele Momodu, included a letter dated July 21, 2025, purportedly signed by Babangida, stating he had declined the appointment due to “personal and professional considerations.”
But in a swift rebuttal, Presidential aide Olusegun Dada insisted Babangida had accepted the appointment and expressed “deep gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust reposed in him.”

“Muhammed Babangida has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture. Reports of rejection are false and malicious,” Dada said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Presidency further warned that those behind what it called “deliberate attempts to mislead the public and tarnish the Tinubu administration” would be investigated and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, Momodu doubled down, praising Babangida on Instagram for “rejecting a Greek gift.” His statement has stoked political tensions, with the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC)—which Momodu recently joined—accusing Tinubu of using appointments to curry favour in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.
Muhammed Babangida’s appointment was announced just two days earlier, as part of a series of new leadership selections across strategic federal institutions.
