President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declined assent to the bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Education in Numan, Adamawa State, citing inconsistencies in the legislation.

In a letter to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, read during plenary on Tuesday by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, the President informed the House that he made the decision on December 23, 2024.

President Tinubu raised concerns over Section 22 of the bill, which grants the authority to dispose of land belonging to the federal institution to the Adamawa State Governor.

According to Kalu, President Tinubu also noted that the proposal on the Award of Degree by the proposed institution was omitted in Section 25(b).

The bill, sponsored by Senator Binos Yaroe, representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, was passed by the National Assembly in 2024 and transmitted to the President for assent.

President Tinubu Signs North-Central Development Commission Bill into Law

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed a bill establishing the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC) into law. This was announced on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a session in the Senate chamber.

According to Akpabio, the establishment of the NCDC is expected to bring development to the grassroots.
