The anti-corruption body further instructed Android phone users to follow eight simple guidelines to secure their SIM cards.
They were:
- Go to setting on your phone.
-
Scroll to select Security.
-
Click on Set Up SIM Card lock.
-
Click on the Lock SIM Card.
-
Input Default SIM Card PIN, 0000 or 00000.
-
Change the default pin to your personal pin.
-
Confirm your 4-digit unique pin.
-
Restart the phone to confirm your SIM pin.
The development came as a growing concern as more and more people rely on their mobile phones for banking and other financial transactions.
To protect your sim card from being hacked, the anti-graft agency warned citizens never to share their sim card details with anyone, especially strangers.
Also, avoid using public Wi-Fi networks as they can be easily compromised by hackers.
Checks also recommended for users to regularly change their sim card PIN and password to prevent unauthorized access.
In addition, the EFCC advised phone users to keep their phone’s software up to date as it can help to prevent vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers.
