Borno State Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal has reported two incidents resulting in loss of life and injury.

According to Lawal, an improvised explosive device detonated during a protest in Maiduguri’s Bulumkutu area, killing one person and injuring 11 others.

The injured are receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital, while the scene has been secured by Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) personnel.

In a separate incident in Biu, a domestic dispute turned fatal when a man hit his wife with a stick, causing a serious head injury.

It was said that she was pronounced dead at the General Hospital Biu.

Reports added that the suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing.

The above incidents bring the total number of deaths in the state to 17 in the past 48 hours, with several others injured.

Meanwhile, the police assured citizens that investigations are ongoing and normalcy has been restored.
