Protesters gathered at Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos on Tuesday, marking Nigeria’s 2024 Independence Day with a demonstration against government policies.
Led by civil society organizations, the protest is a response to escalating hardships, including rising fuel prices and the cost of living.
The event is being closely monitored by a significant police presence, including the Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola. Protesters displayed placards with messages such as “Reverse electricity tariff now” and “Reduce petrol price to N197 per litre,” calling for urgent government action on their demands.
This protest, branded #FearlessOctober1, follows a similar movement in August and highlights ongoing frustrations with government failures to address issues such as food insecurity, electoral reforms, and overall governance.
