A tragic incident at Obada Idi-Emi High School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State, has resulted in the death of a student identified as Ariyo.
The boy reportedly died after a teacher allegedly punished him with 162 strokes of the cane for breaking a dustbin.
Activist Adetoun shared details of the incident on Instagram, explaining that the teacher had instructed the students to avoid breaking the dustbin, which was allegedly purchased with their money.
When Ariyo jokingly commented on this, the teacher became enraged and reported the matter to the principal, who subsequently ordered the severe punishment.

According to reports, after enduring the flogging, Ariyo collapsed and was delayed in receiving medical attention.
Activist Adetoun claimed that the teacher and staff members at the scene did not promptly take him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, stating that it had caused tension in the area but that police intervention helped to control the situation.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command has yet to respond to media inquiries regarding the case.
