Global soccer governing body, FIFA, has imposed a 150,000 Swiss Franc (about 154,128.75 USD) fine on Nigeria for unruly behaviour of supporters of the Super Eagles at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Match 29.

The fracas which saw Nigerian supporters invade the pitch at the end of a FIFA World Cup 2023l2 qualifier that ended in a 1-1 draw , leading to a stampede and leaving many injured.

The result was enough for the Black Stars as they edged Nigeria out of the Qatar 2022 race on away goals rule.

FIFA, in a dispatch letter by its Disciplinary Committee, lamented the poor organisation of the match, as well as lack of order and security at the venue of the all-important encounter.

It added that there was ‘failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play and throwing of objects’.

In addition to the 150,000 CHF fine, Nigeria will play its next home match without fans.
