He led by as many as eight points, rattled off seven straight points at one stage and finished with 19 points on his own serve and 14 off his opponent’s.

Huang, a world No. 49 and a wildcard, never found a lasting rhythm.

Aruna now advances to the round of 16 and will meet the winner of Wednesday’s tie between Germany’s Patrick Franziska and sixth seed Xiang Peng.

If he keeps this form, he could face fourth seed Hugo Calderano in a high-profile quarter-final.

This win marks a timely return to form for Quadri Aruna on one of table tennis’s biggest stages.

The WTT Champions Macao features top names such as defending champion Lin Shidong, Wang Chuqin, Tomokazu Harimoto and Lin Yun-Ju, and fans expect several blockbuster ties.

On the women’s side, Zhu Yuling reached the last 16 while Adriana Diaz survived a five-game battle with Sofia Polcanova.

Aruna’s confident start gives him momentum; fans will watch closely to see whether he can push deeper into the tournament.
