Hamzat made the declaration on Saturday during a political rally held at the Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where supporters and party members gathered in large numbers.
Speaking at the event, the broadcaster said joining partisan politics was never part of his original plan. However, he explained that his decision was driven by what he described as a divine calling to serve the people of Oyo State at a higher level.
“I never imagined I would join a political party or contest for any political office,” Hamzat said.
“I have always been a supporter and a cheerleader for aspirants, but God had other plans for me.”
He announced that he has officially adopted the Accord Party as his political platform and confirmed that he would personally run for governor in 2027.
Hamzat also made it clear that he would no longer mobilise political support for other aspirants ahead of future elections, stressing that his full focus is now on his governorship ambition.
“Today, I am publicly declaring my intention to join Accord and contest the Oyo governorship election in 2027,” he added.
The declaration signals a major political move in Oyo State, as the influential broadcaster enjoys strong grassroots followership across Ibadan and beyond.
