Notably, Rema’s appearance marked a historic moment as he became the very first Afrobeats artist to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards, underscoring the incredible success he has achieved in the year 2023.
The much coveted prize was won by Argentine captain, Lionel Messi, who overcame tough competition from Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
While Haaland guided Manchester City to the treble last season, Mbappe shouldered the responsibility of leading France to a second consecutive World Cup final and narrowly lost to Messi and Argentina on penalties.
