Afrobeats sensation Rema continues to make global waves as his 2025 single, “Baby (Is It A Crime)”, has been named the most streamed Nigerian song globally on Spotify for the first half of the year.
The track, released in February, marked Rema’s first offering of 2025. Inspired by Sade Adu’s iconic 1985 ballad, the song blends nostalgia with modern Afrobeats energy, helping it dominate streaming charts both locally and internationally.

Spotify released its Global Impact List on Monday, spotlighting the top 30 Nigerian songs streamed worldwide between January and June 2025. The chart underscores the sustained rise of Afrobeats as a global genre and celebrates Nigeria’s influence on the world music stage.
Davido led all artists with a commanding nine entries on the list—each one from his recently released fifth studio album, 5ive. The star teamed up with global acts like Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Omah Lay, Shenseea, Tayc, and Dadju, reinforcing his position as a cross-continental hitmaker.
One notable standout on the otherwise Afrobeats-heavy chart was “Favour” by gospel minister Lawrence Oyor. The spiritually uplifting track was the only gospel song to break into the top 30 and has seen a viral surge since its release earlier this year.
Reacting to the list, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, praised the global expansion and diversity of Nigerian music.
“This year’s Global Impact List is a testament to the vast range and international appeal of Nigerian music. We’re seeing both seasoned global talents and promising new artists making significant strides,” she said.
“It’s particularly exciting to observe Afrobeats not only dominating but continually evolving, capturing the attention of a global audience. Spotify is proud to be a part of this movement.”
