In a bid to support food sufficiency and address the high cost of food, the House of Representatives has resolved to cut down their salaries by 50% for six months.

This decision was made on Thursday during plenary in Abuja, with the lawmakers also begging Nigerians to exercise more patience with President Ahmed Tinubu’s led administration in addressing challenges and hardships faced by citizens.

The House has mandated its Committee on Appropriation, Humanitarian Affairs, Finance, and Budget to ensure compliance with the resolution. The motion was moved by Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka (APC- Ogun State) and was adopted by the House.

This move is seen as a response to the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians, with the House of Representatives demonstrating its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to address these challenges. By cutting down their salaries, the lawmakers are contributing N648 million to the Federal Government’s coffers for six months.

The resolution follows the adoption of a motion moved on the floor of the House by Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka (APC- Ogun State) during plenary in Abuja.

The motion was seconded by other lawmakers, who expressed their support for the move.
