Adamu Tanko, a representative of the Suleja/Tafa/Gurara federal constituency in Niger State has proposed a solution to the ‘Japa Syndrome’ that is plaguing Nigeria.
According to Tanko, the key to tackling the issue was to engage Nigerians who were already residing abroad and encourage them to contribute to the country’s struggling economy.
Tanko made the statement during an empowerment program held at the Suleja Township Stadium to mark his 100 days in office.
He was the chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora and also a member of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).

The lawmaker stressed that by harnessing the potential of Nigerians abroad, Tanko believed that Nigeria’s economy could experience a much-needed boost.
He said:
“At the committee level, our responsibility is to make sure we maximize the benefit of Nigerians in diaspora for the benefit of those resident in Nigeria. There are very influential Nigerians living everywhere in the world and holding influential positions, and they have the means to contribute to nation-building back home.
“If you mobilize Nigerians in the diaspora sufficiently to do this, that will be a very efficient way to mitigate japa syndrome.
“We intend to embark on massive mobilization, publicity campaigns, and sensitization on Nigerians across the world to give back some portion of what they have to make citizens leaving this country to others to stay back home.”
