The House of Representatives has rejected a motion seeking the Federal Government’s intervention in the ongoing chieftaincy title dispute in Okpella, Edo State.
The motion, moved by Dekeri Anamero, representing Etsako East/Etsako West Federal Constituency, was turned down due to inability to find a seconder.
During the plenary session, Anamero expressed sadness over the loss of lives in Okpella following the violent response to the election of Lukman Akemokue as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He called for the deployment of security forces to restore peace in the area and accused Obaseki of appointing Akemokue despite public opposition.
However, the motion was rejected after Awaji-Inombek Abiante, representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, declined to second it.
Abiante stated, “Mr Speaker, you don’t have to preach to us to second the motion. If no one is seconding the motion, let the motion die”.
